Rail News: Railroading Supplier Spotlight

Network Rail awarded Harsco Rail a three-year, $25 million contract to operate and maintain its fleet of eight mobile maintenance trains starting in April. The mobile maintenance trains enable the delivery of essential track-maintenance works throughout Network Rail’s rail system in the United Kingdom, Harsco officials said in a press release.

The Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority will complete deployment of the Wi-Tronix LLC’s Violet Edge IoT Platform on the agency’s diesel locomotive fleet. The deployment will equip the fleet with safety, fuel management, transportation, maintenance and video solutions, including in-cab mobile device detection and edge processing alerts, Wi-Tronix officials said in a press release.

The Societe du Grand Paris selected a consortium comprising Nokia and ENGIE Solutions to deploy an LTE private wireless network for 124 new miles of automated rail lines on the Grand Paris Express in France. Nokia will deploy an LTE private mobile radio solution designed for operational communications and indoor/outdoor connectivity across the rail lines and at 68 metro stations. Meanwhile, ENGIE Solutions will be responsible for the study, purchasing, construction and testing of the network until global commissioning of the service, Nokia officials said in a press release.

Crain’s Chicago Business selected Sasser Family Cos. as finalist in its 2020 "Best Places to Work in Chicago" awards. The award recognizes 100 companies for excellence in working conditions, benefits and corporate culture. Sasser's subsidiary businesses include Chicago Freight Car Leasing, CF Rail Services, Union Leasing, Express 4X4 Truck Rental, Xcēd, and NxGen Rail Services.

The Home Depot honored Hub Group with its 2019 “3rd Party Broker—3PL of the Year” award for continuously delivering high levels of service and innovation across its intermodal and truckload business segments, Hub Group officials said in a press release. The Home Depot also called out Hub Group’s contributions to Home Depot’s emergency response program, which ensures crucial supplies are available to those affected by natural disasters and other emergencies.

Schneider has been selected by CIO.com as a 2020 CIO 100 honoree. The CIO 100 award program recognizes organizations that use technology to enhance internal processes or improve the customer experience. Schneider was honored for its use of artificial intelligence, advanced Internet of Things technology and data science that streamlines operations in the transportation and logistics industry, Schneider officials said in a press release.
