Humatics Corp., in partnership with Hitachi Rail, announced the successful completion of a year-long pilot project evaluating the technical and economic benefits of the Humatics Rail Navigation System (HRNS). Humatics deployed the HRNS on about a mile of Hitachi Rail's test track in Naples, Italy, and on one test vehicle, integrated with a communication-based train control (CBTC) simulator. Tests were conducted to determine positioning and speed performance compared to ground truth sensors and Hitachi Rail's CBTC odometry requirements. Hitachi Rail concluded that the HRNS met all CBTC odometry requirements.
Thales will provide its SelTrac™ communication-based train control technology to deliver a new Operations Control Center and a fully automated depot named Operations and Maintenance Center 4 under two new contracts with TransLink in Vancouver, British Columbia. The projects will be under the Expo and Millennium Line Upgrade Program, which features a 14-mile expansion of the fully automated Metro Vancouver SkyTrain system, with 41 new trains expected to be in service by the end of 2027.
Alstom announced the creation of a new innovation center for green rail mobility solutions, to be located at its Americas headquarters in St-Bruno-de-Montarville, Quebec. The innovation center's main mission will be to develop future platforms for green hybrid, battery or hydrogen propulsion technologies specifically tailored to the North American freight- and passenger-rail markets.
Koppers recently presented the annual Zero Harm President's Award to its Muncy facility in Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. The award recognizes best-in-company performance as measured in safety, environmental responsibility and innovation. Muncy topped all 45 Koppers facilities around the world, particularly in its rate of leading indicators, defined as safety observations, hazard identifications and reporting of near-misses, Koppers officials said in a press release.
