Hyperloop Transportation Technologies (HyperloopTT) announced a financial investment from Thornton Tomasetti, a global scientific and engineering consulting firm that provides specialized safety, security and risk management services. In 2020, HyperloopTT and Thornton Tomasetti began a broad operational safety and security assessment that evaluated the performance of key system elements under extreme loading conditions arising from accidents and intentional threats. With capsules traveling up to 760 mph, the high-speed nature of the hyperloop system and its operation within a low-pressure environment presents unique technical considerations, HyperloopTT officials said in a press release.
Rail Operations Inc.'s assets have been acquired by the newly formed Innovative Operations Technology. The acquisition will help expand software development and a wider range of products, including enhanced rail traffic control systems and passenger ticket systems. Rail Operations was established in 2010.
Aspen Equipment has expanded its Davenport, Iowa, location to cater to a growing railroad and construction customer base in eastern Iowa and western Illinois. After adding 4,800 square feet in 2018, the company just added another 7,200 square feet, bringing the total shop space to about 20,000 square feet. The Quad Cities branch relies on six experienced mechanics and three service trucks to serve customers, according to a company press release.
The team of Humatics and Hitachi Rail STS is a finalist for the RailTech 2022 Technology & Design Innovation Award for deploying the Humatics Rail Navigation System in Naples, Italy. The project demonstrated the improvements that can be achieved over traditional communication-based train control odometry systems. Winners will be announced at June 21 at the RailTech Europe conference in Utrecht, Netherlands.
