Loram Maintenance of Way has acquired the rail business unit of Sentient Science. Financial terms were not disclosed. The products, team and intellectual property will be managed by Loram Technologies, a subsidiary of Loram. The acquisition includes Sentient Science's digital twins and economic models products, which are used by railroads to extend rail life and realize savings from track maintenance practices. The purchase also includes the leadership, software and technical team of the rail business unit, which will join Loram Technologies' digital team.

FTR Transportation Intelligence, an economic and freight forecasting firm, announced Jonathan Starks has been appointed CEO to succeed Eric Starks, who has transitioned to the role of chairman. Jonathan Starks joined FTR in 2001 as chief intelligence officer. In that role, he developed and expanded FTR’s Freight•cast transportation model and subscription services product line. FTR also has named Jami Sargent chief operating officer, the first to hold that position at the company. Sargent, who joined FTR in 2016, previously served as chief of staff.

Duos Technologies Group Inc., through its operating subsidiary Duos Technologies Inc., reported that in 2022 the company's Railcar Inspection Portal (rip® or RIP) technology performed over 7 million comprehensive rail-car scans, of which more than 573,000 were unique rail cars. This metric encompasses all rail cars scanned at locations across the United States, Canada and Mexico, representing about 35% of the total freight car population in North America. Also, Duos recently was awarded a contract for two high-speed systems that are expected to be operational in mid-2023 in the U.S. Northeast as part of a major passenger-rail infrastructure upgrade.

Adif has awarded Thales a contract to provide maintenance services for the signaling and traffic management system installed on the Madrid-Barcelona-Figueras high-speed line. The 48-month contract is valued at 26.9 million euros.

Heartwood and MaxAccel jointly announced their strategic partnership to support freight and passenger railroads with an integrated, digitally led training and compliance solution. This initiative combines their respective virtual training simulations and electronic recordkeeping technologies to facilitate, improve and streamline instruction and certification management processes.
