Rail supplier news from Miller Felpax, Siemens, Konecranes, Chicago Freight Car, RailComm, RSI and NRC (Aug. 16)

Miller Felpax Corp. has changed its name to Miller Ingenuity. The rebranding is the first in 60 years for the railroad components manufacturer. The name change reflects the company's evolution over time, says President and Chief Executive Officer Steve Blue. "We consistently demonstrate to our customers the creative capacity to engineer and manufacture new products. We think the word 'Ingenuity' captures that quality," he said in a press release.

Siemens has received a $26.7 million order from Entreprise Métro d'Alger (EMA) to equip the extension of underground Line 1 in Algiers with a signaling system. The new segment of the first automatic metro line in Algeria's capital city runs underground, and will add four new stations to the existing line.

Konecranes was selected to provide two new reach stackers for container handling up to 45 tons. The company is supplying its model 4543 TBX5 reach stacker, a second rail machine with Load Jack, which will be used for handling containers in first and second rails. The order for two new reach stackers comes after CSX Intermodal Terminals purchased an initial unit, according to a Konecranes press release.

Chicago Freight Car Leasing Co. has named Jay Wilensky vice president of accounting and finance. Now in his 26th year with Chicago Freight Car, Wilensky joined the company as assistant controller and took on increasing responsibilities during his tenure. He most recently was director of accounting and company controller.

RailComm has provided its Domain Operations Controller (DOC®) train control system for Northshore Mining in Silver Bay, Minn. The system is designed to enable Northshore Mining to remotely dispatch railroads, and enable railroad management to log in from remote locations.

Railway Supply Institute (RSI) has named 10 students to receive $3,000 scholarships for the 2013/2014 academic year. Two of this year's scholarships are sponsored by the Mechanical Association Railcar Technical Services (MARTS). Rep. Shelly Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) joined National Railroad Construction and Maintenance Association representatives for an Aug. 7 tour of the Appalachian Timber Services facility in Sutton, W.Va. Capito is a member of the House Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines and Hazardous Materials. Appalachian Timber Services employs 49 people and has served the industry for more than 40 years with creosote-treated wood products.
