Plasser American recently announced it acquired Danbury, Connecticut-based DPR Ultrasonic Technologies. DPR’s latest product leverages patented software to drive a state-of-the-art electronics platform, Plasser officials said in a press release. The platform incorporates conventional ultrasonics, phased array technology and advanced artificial intelligence. “This addition makes [us] the first and only full-range provider of rail inspection and treatment solutions in North America,” said Plasser President and CEO Thomas Blechinger.

The Glassboro-Camden Line (GCL) project team has selected the South Jersey Transit Partners joint venture between AECOM and STV Inc. to provide engineering, project management and additional professional services for the GCL light-rail project in New Jersey. The planned 18-mile corridor will restore passenger-rail service along an existing line to improve links between established communities, jobs and activity centers in the region. The GCL project team is managed by the Delaware River Port Authority with partners New Jersey Transit and the South Jersey Transportation Authority.

Knorr-Bremse and Thales have signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on the development of automatic train operation (ATO) solutions for freight and passenger trains. By combining their ATO expertise, the companies aim to develop automated features for a digital freight train. ATO will greatly assist engineers in their daily work and help counter the rail industry’s looming staff shortages, as well as improve freight-rail efficiency, punctuality and competitiveness, Knorr-Bremse and Thales officials said in a joint release. “ATO is a key lever for making rail freight more efficient and more available, increasing transportation capacity and further optimizing lifecycle costs for operators,” said Knorr-Bremse Chairman Nicolas Lange.

Wabtec Corp. recently reported third-quarter earnings per diluted share of 88 cents, up 27.5%, and adjusted earnings per diluted share of $1.22, up 7% compared with third-quarter 2021 results. Sales climbed 9.1% to $2.08 billion and cash from operations reached $204 million. Freight segment sales increased across all product groups, with very strong growth in equipment, digital electronics and services, Wabtec officials said in a press release. On a constant currency basis, sales climbed 19.8%. “[Our] disciplined execution and the strength of the underlying business enabled us to navigate a volatile and dynamic environment that included significant headwinds from negative foreign currency exchange, supply-chain constraints and high input costs,” said Wabtec President and CEO Rafael Santana.

Rail cybersecurity service provider Cylus has appointed rail cybersecurity expert Shao Fei Huang to its advisory board. Shao Fei has more than 20 years of cybersecurity experience and will contribute to Cylus' continuous product development and global expansion, Cylus officials said in a press release. He has spent two decades in the cybersecurity and public transit industries, having served as a longtime executive of Singapore's Land Transport Authority and a principal security architect for Amazon Web Services.
