Plasser & Theurer has named Daniel Siedl chief operating officer and Winfried Budenbender chief technical officer. Most recently, Siedl led site development and process optimization. Prior to joining the company, he was managing director of ROBEL Bahnbaumaschinen GmbH in Germany. Budenbender previously held management positions in various companies in the technical sector, Plasser & Theurer officials said in a press release.
Alstom announced it has equipped the Wuppertal Suspension Railway in western Germany with its Atlas ETCS train control system under a contract with WSW mobil GmbH. The system includes interlocking and a radio block center, as well as an interface to the computer-aided operation control system. The entry into service marks the completion of Alstom’s first full train control and signaling contract in Germany, Alstom officials said in a press release.
VTG Rail Inc. has appointed Sven Wellbrock to chief operating officer in Europe and chief safety officer on the executive board. He will be responsible for VTG’s rail-car leasing and logistical actives in Europe. Prior to the new appointment, Wellbrock was head of the rail business line in Europe. VTG also appointed Oksana Janssen to COO of Eurasia and the Far East. She will be responsible for the rail-car leasing business in those regions, and oversee tank container and project logistics activities. Meanwhile, VTG Chief Logistics and Safety Officer Gunter-Friedrich Maas has left the company to pursue “entrepreneurial challenges,” VTG officials said in a press release.
LCI Italy SRL has acquired Ciesse SpA, an Italy-based supplier of railway interior products and systems. LCI Industries, the parent company of LCI Italy, supplies highly engineered components for original equipment manufacturers. The acquisition expands the company’s railway solution division for high-speed and commuter-rail customers, LCI officials said in a press release.
The National Railroad Construction and Maintenance Association (NRC) has extended its scholarship program deadline to Sept. 6. The NRC has three scholarships available to provide tuition assistance to children or grandchildren of employees of NRC member companies. The scholarships will be in awarded in the amounts of $3,000, $6,000 and $12,000 to full-time college students or recent high school graduates in the process of enrolling in college, NRC officials said in a press release.
