Progress Rail and Wabtec Corp. have reached a settlement in the antitrust case of Progress Rail v. Wabtec, according to a jointly released statement issued Feb. 26. The parties agreed the settlement is best for both, as well as for customers and consumers. The prospect of additional litigation is not in anyone's interest, according to the statement. Neither party admitted liability in the case. The companies acknowledged that they have been and remain suppliers of long-haul freight locomotives and cab components, including Tier IV long-haul locomotives, to Class Is and other customers. The case began in 2023, when Progress Rail alleged that Wabtec engaged in antitrust conduct and asked a federal judge to require Wabtec to divest the GE Transportation unit it acquired in 2019, national news media reported at the time.
Twin Eagle Terminals & Logistics (TETL) has completed a 2,000-foot track expansion at its Big Spring, Texas, transload terminal. The expansion was designed to increase terminal capacity and strengthen its rail-served logistics infrastructure to support growth in energy and industrial commodity volumes, according to a TETL press release. The expansion brings the terminal's total rail footprint to more than 37,000 feet of track. The facility is served by Union Pacific Railroad and operates 24/7 with in-house switching and material handling capabilities. The additional track capacity increases throughput for pipe and oversized materials while maintaining flexibility to handle a diverse mix of commodities, TETL officials said.
