STV Inc. has signed a contract to support the SunRail Phase 2 North project. Herzog Contracting Corp. is the prime contractor for the 12.2-mile, $34 million design-build commuter-rail extension and passenger station in DeLand, Florida. STV will provide engineering design services to extend the current SunRail system in central Florida north from the DeBary Station to the DeLand Amtrak Station in Volusia County. The firm’s scope includes 4 miles of double tracking, communications and electrical engineering at SunRail’s new DeLand Station, and a total rehabilitation of the pedestrian tunnel at Lake Beresford Park.
IntelliTrans, a global multimodal solutions provider serving bulk and break-bulk product manufacturers, this week marked 30 years in business. IntelliTrans was founded in 1992 in San Francisco in a shared office with Southern Pacific Railroad. It began by helping shippers with modal conversion from road to rail to reduce transport costs and road traffic. “As we celebrate this milestone and look back on our growth over the years, we also look forward to our growth plans this year and beyond,” said IntelliTrans President Ken Sherman in a press release.
3C Telemetry has developed a plug-and-play solution for railroads that have earlier 3G cellular locomotive monitoring systems installed in their locomotives. The new system still uses cellular communications to send data to the Internet, but uses the newest LTE (long-term evolution) communications technology, company officials said in a press release.
