Siemens Mobility and Sudwestdeutsche Landesverkehrs-GmbH (SWEG) opened a new depot for battery-powered trains in Offenburg, Germany. Located near the Offenburg train station, the depot will be used to maintain the Siemens Mireo Plus B battery-powered trains expected to enter service by year’s end. SWEG will lease the depot to Siemens for 30 years from this month. The 4,430-square-foot depot includes two pit tracks, roof work stands, a full-length gantry crane and two outbuildings for storage and office space.

Vizion launched an intermodal rail tracking feature that complements the company’s existing ocean-tracking capabilities. It will offer shippers and logistics service providers a seamless look at containers as they transition from maritime vessels to inland transportation. Available through the Vizion API, the tool streamlines container tracking by eliminating the need for a letter of authorization and separate transactions for ocean and rail tracking. Instead, users only need a single tracking request for location updates for any container regardless of location.

Leclanche was selected by French railway equipment manufacturer Socofer to equip Channel Tunnel maintenance locomotives with the Leclanche INT-53 battery pack that can be used in fully electrified and hybrid configurations. Socofer is supplying 19 hybrid locomotives to pull maintenance wagons on the underwater rail line linking France to the United Kingdom.
