Rail supplier news from Teleweld, Herzog, Progress Rail and Thales (March 18)

Transco Products Inc. has acquired Teleweld Inc., which provides rail heater cars and non-destructive testing equipment to the rail industry. Transco — which supplies various products and services to the global nuclear power industry — and Teleweld will maintain independent operations. The acquisition positions Transco to further solidify its standing in the nuclear power sector, while simultaneously entering new realms of innovation and expertise in the railroad industry, Transco officials said in a press release.

Herzog has appointed LeAnna Gutierrez Cumber chief strategy officer. In her new role, she will work to expand the company’s capabilities and reach, including assisting customers with obtaining project financing, Herzog officials said in a press release. “Her expertise in securing funding aligns seamlessly with [our] mission to not only provide top-tier rail and highway solutions, but to empower our clients in achieving their broader objectives,” said Herzog Chairman and CEO Brad Lager. Most recently, Gutierrez Cumber was a city councilwoman in Jacksonville, Florida. She also ran a transportation consulting firm for more than 14 years.

Progress Rail and logistics company VLI have signed a contract through which Progress Rail will supply eight EMD® SD70ACe-BB locomotives. The units will be added to VLI's fleet to transport cargo in the southeast corridor of the Centro-Atlantica Railway in Brazil. Progress Rail will produce the rolling stock at its plant in Sete Lagoas, Brazil. Delivery is planned for late 2025. VLI operates ports, railways and terminals.

Thales has obtained a contract from ADIF in Spain to provide signaling technology for the Merida Logistics Platform, an intermodal terminal that will be part of the plan to increase freight-rail transportation in Spain. Thales will carry out the adaptation of the safety and communications installations affected by the new track configuration of the project. ADIF will manage the general interest railway network.
