Wabtec Corp.has launched its Shuttlewagon Commander NXT rail-car movers. The Commander NXT series includes four models that offer tractive efforts ranging from 26,000 pounds to 41,300 pounds. This new mover also features the patented ShuttleLaunch technology, which is engineered to optimize tractive effort, substantially reduce wheel slipping and extend tire life. "The Commander NXT was designed with the customer in mind and represents the future in rail-car mobilization," said Raj Gupta, president and CEO-maintenance of way for Wabtec, in a press release.

Stadler Rail and KiwiRail, the national railway operator of New Zealand, have signed two additional locomotive contracts. The first contract involves the delivery of nine mainline locomotives equipped with the European Train Control System for operation on the North Island. The second agreement includes the supply of 24 hybrid battery-diesel yard shunt locomotives, along with spare parts, specialized tools and technical support services. Stadler is currently manufacturing the 57 DM class narrow gauge locomotives, which was ordered by KiwiRail in 2021.

Innovative Rail Technologies (IRT) has been selected to provide its ATLAS lithium-ion battery-electric propulsion system for a Dominion Energy-led project funded by the Texas Military Preparedness Commission to improve energy resiliency for rail operations in Fort Cavazos, Texas. The project was the top-scoring proposal chosen for funding and will result in the conversion of one of the U.S Army's diesel locomotives to battery electric, according to a news release. The battery system on ATLAS locomotives are designed to provide back-up power during emergency events — including cyber-attacks — providing an additional layer of operational readiness.

VHB has launched its energy evolution practice, which will provide comprehensive energy consultancy services across all the markets VHB serves. The practice will develop and implement strategies that integrate renewable energy, enhance resilience and incorporate advanced infrastructure concepts, according to a news release. The energy evolution practice features a multidisciplinary team of energy-focused practitioners.
