Rail supplier updates from Alstom, Greenbrier, Thales, and Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam, and Thales (Oct. 7)

Alstom has been awarded a contract worth more than $168 million by Lucknow Metro Rail Corp. to provide metro trainsets and a signaling solution for a new transit network in Lucknow, India. As part of the contract, Alstom will supply 20 Metropolis trainsets, which are composed of four cars. Additionally, Alstom will provide its Urbalis communications-based train control system, which controls the movement of trains and enables them to run at higher frequencies.

The Greenbrier Cos. announced today that it received an order from the Saudi Railway Co. for 1,200 tank cars. Three types of tank cars will support industrial mining operations in the Sirhan-Turaif region of northern Saudi Arabia. The cars will help facilitate rail transportation of molten sulfur and phosphor acid, which are used in a range of industrial activities. The order was placed in the fourth quarter ended Aug. 31, Greenbrier officials said in a news release.

Thales was awarded a $21.9 million contract by Adif for the deployment of a traffic control system and the improvement of security and communications along the Algeciras-Gaucin rail line in Spain. The project is expected to be completed in 18 months.

Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam Inc. promoted Dev Rastogi to vice president and business group director of the firm's transportation group. In the new role, Rastogi will focus on growing the company's national footprint. She previously served as deputy business group director and has 32 years of civil engineering experience.
