Invensys Rail will serve as a subcontractor to Five Star Electric Corp. in a $167 million project to replace two MTA New York City Transit interlockings at 71st Street-Continental Avenue and Van Wyck Boulevard on the Queens Line. The company's portion of the project includes the interlocking control systems, associated wayside signal work and a redundant PLC Code System. Upon completion, the new interlocking control systems will be communications-based train control-ready, Invensys Rail officials said in a press release.

The Timken Co. has acquired InterLube Systems Ltd., which produces and markets automated lubrication delivery systems and related components to end market sectors, including commercial vehicles, construction, mining, and heavy and general industries, according to a company press release. Based in the United Kingdom, InterLube maintains an operation in Dayton, Ohio, and is part of a joint venture in Zhuhai, China. The acquisition includes MSP Distributors Ltd., which InterLube acquired in 2007.

Alstom and Spanish railway infrastructure manager Adif have signed a five-year agreement to develop a new third-rail signaling system as part of a framework agreement the parties signed in November 2012 to carry out research and development projects at Adif's Railway Technology Center in Malaga. The agreement also covers mixed gauge railway operations, as well as share expertise and exchange of information on scientific activities, according to an Alstom press release.

Union Tank Car Co. (UTLX) introduced a new mobile service to clean tank and plastics hopper cars. UTLX On-Site Cleaning is designed to clean non-hazardous material products per EPA rules at a shipper's loading rack or other secure location, UTLX officials said in a press release. Truck-mounted cleaning units include separate 500 gallon tanks to transport wash and rinse solutions to the tank cars.

John Ponzio, director of systems, safety and security, recently was promoted to vice president of STV's Transportation and Infrastructure Division. He has more than 15 years of experience as a project manager and systems engineer. Ponzio currently is STV's project manager for security upgrades at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

Norfolk Southern Corp. has begun to transition its communication control system to a network architecture, replacing its legacy consoles with Frontier-enabled Scout™ Voice over Internet Protocol (VolP) consoles from Avtec Inc., according to an Avtec press release. NS' ongoing deployment currently consists of 96 VolP consoles at six divisional dispatch centers.
