Hub International Ltd. acquired the assets of United Shortline Insurance Services Inc. (USIS), which has provided insurance services to short lines and regionals more than 30 years. USIS will complement and strengthen Hub's growing rail practice in Kansas City, Missouri, Hub officials said in a press release. Louis Schillinger, USIS' owner and chief executive officer, will join Hub Mid-America and report to Paul Cohen, Hub’s area president in Kansas City. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Swiss Federal Railways subsidiary SBB Cargo has selected Voith to automate its complete intermodal domestic transport starting June 2021. Under the agreement, Voith will expand deployment of its CargoFlex solution from six to 11 inland terminals in Switzerland. An additional 206 rail-car and 16 hybrid couplers have been ordered from Voith to support the expansion, and delivery has begun, Voith officials said in a press release.

Wabtec and Regie Autonome des Transports Parisiens (RATP) in Paris have partnered to test Wabtec’s green friction braking solution. The test will study the solution’s ability to improve air quality in Paris tunnels by reducing microparticles emitted from friction braking, Wabtec officials said in a press release. The testing started in October. The study will assess the materials used on the trains, as well as evaluate the performance and particle emissions of the most suitable green friction material.

Bombardier Transportation delivered the 200th TRAXX locomotive to Railpool, a vehicle leasing company in Europe. Railpool’s first TRAXX locomotive was delivered in 2009. Since then, Railpool has ordered 232 TRAXX locomotives from Bombardier that are in service with Railpool customers across 16 countries, Bombardier said in a press release. Meanwhile, Bombardier Transportation announced that its locomotives in the Transnet Freight Rail (TFR) fleet in South Africa have successfully completed 6.2 million miles in service since operations began in December 2017. TFR awarded Bombardier the contract to supply 240 electric locomotives in March 2014. Since then, Bombardier has delivered TRAXX locomotives to Transnet as part of South Africa’s rail modernization plan.

Wi-Tronix hired Randy Harris to help expand customer asset utilization innovations. Harris has over 40 years of experience with CN and spent over 25 years investigating incidents in the claims and legal departments. He has extensive safety and regulatory experience, Wi-Tronix officials said in a press release. At CN, Harris was presented  with the company’s Presidential Award of Excellence based on his contribution, leadership and implementation of an asset utilization initiative.

Holland LP National Sales Manager Maggie Vuono has been named to the National Railroad Construction and Maintenance Association's (NRC) board. Her three-year term will begin Jan. 1, 2021. She succeeds Scott Norman, vice president of operations with Herzog, whose term will expire Dec. 31, NRC officials said in a press release.
