Updates from Loram/Tranergy, Ansaldo, Evraz, TranSystems, RS&H and Gulf Intermodal

• Loram Maintenance of Way Inc. and Tranergy Corp. have announced a definitive agreement under which Loram will acquire all of Tranergy’s assets. Closing of the acquisition is subject to certain customary conditions. Tranergy, which will become a new Loram subsidiary and continue to operate from its Bensenville, Ill., headquarters, supplies friction management products. “The Tranergy acquisition allows Loram to further its leadership position in rail life extension by combining rail grinding with friction modification management,” said Loram President and Chief Executive Officer Phil Homan in a prepared statement. Loram provides various MOW equipment and services, including production rail grinding, specialty grinding, undercutting, shoulder ballast cleaning, track lifting, excavation, ditching, rail handling and track inspection.

• Ansaldo STS has published a 130th anniversary commemorative book on the company’s history, “Safety on the Rails: The Union Switch & Signal Story.” The 192-page book details railroading history and the company’s beginnings in Pennsylvania, where it was founded by inventor George Westinghouse in 1881. Ansaldo STS, formerly known as Union Switch & Signal, commissioned the book to chronicle the company’s technological advancements and contributions from numerous noteworthy employees.

• Evraz North America has named Kimberly Fields executive vice president for its Flat Products group. She will oversee commercial and manufacturing operations across the United States and Canada. Most recently, Fields was general manager of industrials for General Electric Energy.

• TranSystems has promoted Timothy Rock from director of operations to regional vice president of the Midwest Region, which encompasses seven offices in Texas, Missouri and Kansas. A firm principal, Rock has served TranSystems the past 14 years in a number of progressively diverse roles. He is a leader in the firm’s Kansas City rail team and works with many U.S. Class Is. In his new role, Rock will be supported by two operations directors, market sector leaders and business development staff.

• Facilities and infrastructure consulting firm RS&H has named Terry Wilcox vice president and intermodal market leader for its national transportation program. He has more than 25 years of experience in U.S. marine and intermodal-related programs, including the development and management of intermodal programs for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, Amtrak and Conrail.   

• Gulf Intermodal Services has promoted Tamera Phillips from customer service supervisor to operations manager. She has served Gulf Intermodal for six years in various capacities, including dispatch and customer service roles.
