Last week, the Indiana Port Commission named Rich Cooper acting executive director of the Ports of Indiana. Chief operating officer since 2001, Cooper succeeds William Friedman, who resigned as executive director Nov. 5 to become an independent consultant for the freight transportation, maritime and logistics industries.
Prior to joining the ports, Cooper served as global director of manufacturing and engineering for Agribrands International. He previously served Continental Grain Co. in various capacities for 30 years.
"Our port system is on pace to handle more tonnage this year than we have in the last six years," said Cooper in a prepared statement. "We thank Will for the contribution he has made these past four years."
