Gov. Nixon dedicates rail transfer facility in Missouri

Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon yesterday helped dedicate a new rail transfer facility in Washington, Mo.

The $4.2 million facility will enable CG Power Systems and Canam Steel to ship and receive goods via a rail spur served by Union Pacific Railroad. Rail service is vital to both companies because CG Power Systems constructs and ships large electrical transformers, and Canam Steel produces and ships steel products, said Nixon in a press release.

"Up-to-date infrastructure is a critical factor in economic development, and rail infrastructure is a vital part of moving products made in Missouri," he said.

The state of Missouri awarded $2 million in Community Development Block Grant funding to the city of Washington for the facility, which also was financed via $973,551 in federal dollars and $1.1 million in city proceeds.
