Schneider National enhances year-old intermodal product with express service (10/3/2001)
10/3/2021Schneider National Inc. Oct. 2 launched TruckRail® Express, a direct-route intermodal service designed for shipments originating east of Kansas City, Mo., and destined for California, Oregon or Washington.
Through the service, which daily would average 500 to 600 miles, Schneider National aims to provide truck-level transit times with intermodal-level savings.
The company through year-end plans to offer a transit-time money-back guarantee on the service, which includes an equipment pool of more than 40,000 53-foot trailers and 24/7 customer service.
"Standard intermodal providers are generally not able to offer transits and reliability equal to a truck," said Tom Bartel, Schneider National's TruckRail director, in a prepared statement, adding that traditional intermodal moves usually are a day slower than over-the-road shipments.
Schneider National last fall initially launched TruckRail, an intermodal service designed with truck-like transit times and reliability. The company provides the premium trailer service with Burlington Northern Santa Fe in the west and CSX Transportation in the east.
Schneider National — one of the four largest U.S. intermodal providers — for several years also has offered OptiModal, a priority 53-foot container intermodal service with Union Pacific Railroad in the west and Norfolk Southern Railway in the east.
