In North American rail country, the Canadian Pacific-Kansas City Southern-CN saga was top of mind all year long, so it’s no surprise RailPrime readers/viewers were most interested in reading/listening to nuanced commentary on (and non-press-release coverage of) the three railroads in question.
Here are the most-read articles/most-viewed video clips on RailPrime in 2021:
- Video: "Tony Hatch on the proposed CP-KCS merger" (3/25/2021)
- "From Saturday night surprise to Sunday morning news (and a big, big deal): the CP-KCS merger" (3/22/2021)
- "Q&A with Chad Rolstad: Leadership development the Canadian Pacific way" (12/1/2021)
- "KCS’ Hancock: Industry needs collaboration to develop advanced train control" (2/23/2021)
- "In a not-so-modest proposal, CN throws a wrench in CP's plans and offers 21% premium bid for KCS" (4/20/2021)
There also were subsets of interest among RailPrime subscribers this past year, particularly in the short-line segment. Here, the most read/viewed were:
- "NRC panel: Four short-line holding company leaders share positive trends, current concerns" (3/29/2021)
- "Video Q&A: Eric Jakubowski, chief commercial officer, Anacostia Rail Holdings Co." (2/26/2021)

We'll continue to follow CP-KCS, as well as the short-line community, in the year ahead. We'll continue to examine the changing workplace in rail country. And the not-product-specific technology evolution. And other links in the transport chain, from ports to trucking to the shipping realm. And anything else that doesn't fall under the traditional "rail coverage" label.
RailPrime is now home to the lion's share of our originally reported and sourced coverage — "our" being Progressive Railroading Magazine, Progressive Railroading Daily News and RailPrime. Thanks for being with us in Year 1 of RailPrime. There's much more to come in Year 2.
