The New York & Atlantic Railway Co. (NYA) recently promoted Mark Westerfield to acting president to succeed Fred Krebs, who retired.
In 2005, Westerfield joined NYA as general superintendent. He previously served as director of operations planning for the former Milwaukee Road, held various senior operating positions at former short-line holding company RailTex, and served in various posts at Union Pacific Railroad and Amtrak.
Krebs first served as NYA’s president shortly after the 269-mile short line — which serves New York City and Long Island, N.Y. — was formed in 1997. He left the railroad in 2000 and returned in 2001.
Krebs previously served as general manger of the San Joaquin Valley Railroad Co., GM of the Eastern Alabama Railway, and vice president and GM of T-K. Construction. He also was a trainmaster at Southern Pacific Railroad, and trainmaster, assistant trainmaster, assistant superintendent, locomotive engineer and trainman at the Milwaukee Road, where he began his railroading career in 1970.
“Fred was instrumental to NYA’s success over the past 10 years,” said Bruce Lieberman, chairman of the short line and vice president of NYA parent Anacostia & Pacific Co. Inc., in a prepared statement.
