Real estate developer Huffines Communities recently purchased 511 acres in southern Dallas County, Texas, adjacent to Union Pacific Railroad's intermodal facility off Interstate 45.
Huffines plans to develop a warehouse, distribution center and intermodal hub at the site. The development also would be served by BNSF Railway Co.
The company expects to create the "first inland port in North America to be served by terminals of two competing rail lines," according to a prepared statement.
Meanwhile, the Amon G. Carter Foundation and Rob Riner Cos. have formed a joint venture to develop about 800 acres in Fort Worth, Texas, into a distribution center.
The first phase will include four buildings totaling 3 million square feet. Construction is scheduled to start in January. The development will be served by the Fort Worth & Western Railroad, which interchanges with UP in Fort Worth.
