Kansas City Southern has renamed its intermodal facility in Wylie, Texas, after former KCS President and Chief Executive Officer David Starling.

In a ceremony held last week, KCS board members dedicated the David L. Starling Wylie Intermodal Terminal, which opened for operations in July 2015 to serve domestic and international intermodal customers.

Since the terminal's opening, Starling retired from his position and was succeeded by Patrick Ottensmeyer, who became president and CEO on July 1.

"It was Dave's vision that brought this facility to fruition, so it is appropriate that it be renamed in his honor," said Ottensmeyer in a press release. "KCS' performance during his tenure as CEO is truly remarkable, and much of the company's success can be attributed to his leadership."

Starling led KCS for six years. In July 2008, he joined KCS as president and chief operating officer and the Kansas City Southern Railway Co. as director, president and CEO. In May 2010, he was elected to the KCS board of directors; in August 2010, he was named chief executive officer. Starling has more than 40 years of experience in the transportation industry.
