A short-line event reporting tool on Steelroads.com now includes additional applications, according to the American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association's (ASLRRA) recent newsletter.
Originally designed for reporting interchange, and actual car placement and release events, the tool now enables small roads to also report constructive car placement, pull, bad order and hold events (which were scheduled to be added to the site this month), and intermediate arrival and departure, and intermodal events (previously targeted for September).
Currently, 79 small roads have signed up to use the reporting tool and 33 roads are active users, ASLRRA said. Since January — when an industry-wide reporting standard took effect — more than 40,000 short-line events have been reported through Steelroads.com.
During the past four years, an ASLRRA integration team comprising representatives from the association, short lines, Class Is and Steelroads.com parent RAILINC Corp. has been trying to prompt more small roads to provide accurate and timely event reports.
