Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman recently awarded an $855,000 Community Development Block Grant to Cheyenne County to help an area company fund a freight-rail project.

The county will provide a loan to Adams Industries Inc. as working capital to build an additional 36,960 linear feet of track and install switching equipment to enhance its transloading capabilities. Located in Sidney, the company provides logistics, warehousing and transload services.

The project will enable Adams Industries to transport freight at its facility either by truck or by rail along seven miles of track that can be accessed by both BNSF Railway Co. and Union Pacific Railroad.

The project also will be funded by $6.5 million in company equity and proceeds from several bank loans.
