Amtrak taps Philadelphia Deputy Mayor Cutler for high-ranking role

Philadelphia's Deputy Mayor for Transportation and Utilities Rina Cutler plans to leave her post with the city to become senior director for major station planning and development at Amtrak, Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter announced late last week.

In her new role, Cutler will advance master plans for Amtrak's largest stations across the United States, according to a statement issued by Nutter's office.

Cutler's last day with the city will be April 17.

"Rina Cutler is passionate about public service, the future of cities, and innovation and diversity," Nutter said. "She will bring a lifetime of talent, energy and passion to infrastructure development on a national stage at a time when Americans must plan for and invest in greener, more sustainable transit."

Nutter named Cutler to his staff in March 2008. In her current role, she coordinates various city departments and agencies, in addition to managing relationships with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), Amtrak and private railroads.

Prior to her work with the city, Cutler served as deputy secretary for administration at PennDOT and transportation commissioner in Boston.
