Amtrak will launch customer service improvements to its Auto Train service starting in January 2020, the railroad announced yesterday.

The train — on which riders can travel with their cars, vans, SUVs, motorcycles and other motorized vehicles — offers daily, nonstop rail service between Lorton, Virginia, and Sanford, Florida.

Improvements will include an expansion of sleeping-car accommodation availability to meet demand, Amtrak officials said in a press release.

Also, starting Jan. 15, Amtrak will add dining options with the debut of the train's "Cross-Country Cafe," which will feature meals, snacks and beverages for sale.

Coach class tickets no longer will include complimentary dinner service, but coach riders will receive a complimentary breakfast prior to the train's arrival at the Lorton or Sanford stations, Amtrak officials said.

For all riders, food trucks will be available onsite in Lorton and Sanford.

"These upgrades represent an investment in improving the travel experience on this one-of-a-kind train,” said Amtrak President and Chief Executive Officer Richard Anderson. “Our continued success depends on increasing customer satisfaction by upgrading sleeping accommodations, keeping coach as an affordable option and providing more choice in food options in the station and onboard.”
