Metrolink has awarded Amtrak a contract to provide commuter-rail operation services, Amtrak announced yesterday.
The contract will begin Jan. 1, 2021, and expire June 30, 2025. Amtrak will provide and manage engineers and conductors to run Metrolink trains in Southern California.
Amtrak was selected from a field of five contract proposals. A dollar value of the contract was not released.
"We are honored to continue serving Metrolink and the communities and residents of Southern California," said Amtrak President Stephen Gardner in a press release. "We look forward to building upon our many years of partnership and helping the agency achieve its bold vision of growth and improvement."
Amtrak was the original operator of Metrolink trains from 1992 to 2005. Amtrak regained the contract starting in 2010.
