Amtrak is now requiring employees to be fully vaccinated by Nov. 1 and mandating that all new hires be vaccinated.

Employees who do not submit proof of vaccination by Nov. 1 will be required to submit a negative COVID-19 test result weekly, Amtrak officials said in a press release. New hires will need to show proof of full vaccination starting Oct. 4 prior to beginning their employment.

The railroad offers all employees free vaccinations at public sites and hosts free vaccine clinics at various Amtrak locations, including one held last week with the state of Illinois and Walmart at Chicago Union Station.

The return to work date for office employees is now set for Nov. 1, which is consistent with the railroad's vaccine mandate, Amtrak officials said.
