Amtrak this week was named to Forbes magazine’s America’s Best Employer for New Graduates 2022 list.

The designation comes as the national intercity passenger railroad is "aggressively recruiting and hiring to fill thousands of jobs," Amtrak officials said in a press release. Amtrak is hiring people to serve in railroad operations, information technology, finance, marketing, government affairs and human resources.

Employers on the Forbes list were identified through an independent survey taken by nearly 20,000 young professionals working for companies with at least 1,000 employees in the United States. Respondents were evaluated on work-related issues and their experiences in the workplace. They also assessed their own employers on several factors, such as atmosphere and development, diversity, image, salary and wage, working conditions and workplace.

Officials highlighted Amtrak's internship and co-op program for undergraduate and graduate students, which offers paid positions year-round. The program identifies and engages talented individuals and inspires career interest in working at the passenger railroad. Amtrak also offers rotational programs to recent graduates or early-career individuals, where they will learn cross-functional experience and gain exposure through challenging rotational assignments.

"Our mission of connecting communities has never been more important, and with our growth, we are creating thousands of new jobs to provide more service, reduce our nation's carbon footprint and help the economy recover and flourish in the years ahead," said Amtrak President and CEO Stephen Gardner.
