Amtrak late last week announced improvements to two routes in the U.S. Northeast.

In conjunction with the Vermont Agency of Transportation, New York State Department of Transportation and the Vermont Railway, Amtrak has made operational improvements to its Ethan Allen Express service. Actions include reducing trip times, providing more reliable service and introducing new schedules.

Riders will also now have more and improved train-connection options to and from New York City, Amtrak officials said in a press release.

The improvements come on the heels of the railroad’s announcement that it broke ground on a new train station in Brattleboro, Vermont, earlier this year in an effort to expand rail service in Vermont. In fiscal-year 2023, 86,638 riders traveled on the Ethan Allen Express compared to 50,515 riders in FY19, highlighting a strong demand for train travel between New York and Vermont, Amtrak officials said.

Meanwhile, Amtrak announced July 3 that it added 33 weekly Northeast Regional stops at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey. The additional stops represent a 26% increase in previous service, railroad officials said.

“We’ve heard from our customers, who asked for more and better-timed stops at Newark Airport, and we are implementing these upgrades based on their feedback,” said Amtrak Vice President Commercial Strategy and Performance Fred Gazzolo in a press release.
