The Federal Railroad Administration awarded a $27 million grant to the Los Angeles – San Diego – San Luis Obispo Rail Corridor Agency (LOSSAN), which manages the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner, to increase train frequencies between Los Angeles and San Diego.

Issued by the FRA Restoration and Enhancement Program (R&E), the grant will help fund three additional round trips between the two cities, increasing the frequency to 13 daily Pacific Surfliner round trips and restoring pre-pandemic service levels, LOSSAN officials said in a press release.

The 351-mile LOSSAN rail corridor travels through six Southern California counties and is the busiest state-supported Amtrak route, according to LOSSAN.

Additional round trips are planned for other Pacific Surfliner segments in the future, pending equipment availability and funding.

LOSSAN also announced today that in response to the wildfires currently affecting Southern California, fares for  travel between two stations on the Pacific Surfliner route from now to Jan. 24 are reduced to $10.
