Amtrak this week announced it earned a spot on ForbesBest Employers for Diversity in 2023 list.

The intercity national passenger railroad and other listed companies were selected based on results from an anonymous survey of more than 45,000 U.S. employees based on age, gender, ethnicity, disability, LGBTQ status and general diversity, Amtrak officials said in a press release.

The survey evaluated how companies fared according to access to employee resource groups, diversity data and the share of women on boards and in executive roles. Recommendations from women, older adults and people of color were given more weight than their counterparts. Survey participants also could evaluate other employers' diversity efforts.

Amtrak employs more than 20,000 people in the United States and expects to hire more than 4,000 new employees this year to support future growth.
