Amtrak makes new Gulf Coast connections through bus lines

An expanded partnership between Amtrak and two bus carriers has added Gulf Coast connections to Amtrak's City of New Orleans, Crescent and Sunset Limited trains.

Connections to the trains now are available on Amtrak.com and other sales channels under a partnership with Greyhound Lines and Capitol Trailways, Amtrak officials said in a press release. Biloxi, Miss., Mobile, Ala., and several other Gulf Coast communities were served by Amtrak until 2005, when service was suspended east of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.

The intercity passenger railroad is analyzing its national network to identify more opportunities to form partnerships with other bus carriers to expand the number of connections, increase ridership and provide more intercity travel options for more communities, Amtrak officials said.
