Yesterday, Amtrak officials announced the appointment of Michael DeCataldo Jr. to the new position of Northeast Corridor general manager.

DeCataldo will be responsible for safety, customer satisfaction, ridership, on-time performance and financial results for the Northeast Corridor business line, Amtrak officials said in a prepared statement.

DeCataldo currently serves as Amtrak's general superintendent for the Northeast Division. Prior to joining Amtrak as an assistant GM of customer service in 1995, he held various positions at New Jersey Transit and Conrail/Penn Central Railroad.

Amtrak is implementing a new strategic plan that calls for various business lines to help with the railroad's performance improvements. In addition to Northeast Corridor services, Amtrak is creating business lines for long distance, state corridor and commuter operations.
