Amtrak tomorrow will kick off the next round of track renewal projects at New York Penn Station.

The bulk of the infrastructure renewal work in 2018 will occur on weekends, with the entire project slated to wrap up on May 28, Amtrak officials said in a press release.

The latest round of repairs will occur in the area of Track 15, which requires a section of concrete demolition and replacement. Crews also will perform localized concrete demolition and rail renewal for Track 18.

In addition, Amtrak will renew and replace three turnouts in the "C Interlocking," which directs Amtrak and MTA Long Island Rail Road trains to routes heading east and to the Sunnyside Yard in Queens, New York.

Amtrak announced plans for the next phase of Penn Station repairs in November.

Over the summer, the railroad completed a host of repairs at Penn Station as part of its infrastructure renewal program. The station repairs are one component of Amtrak's plan to modernize stations, infrastructure and equipment on the Northeast Corridor.
