Amtrak to install digital info system at Philadelphia station

Amtrak this month will begin replacing its current Solari display boards at the William H. Gray III 30th Street Station in Philadelphia with a new digital passenger information display system (PIDS).

The project will include replacing the display boards at each gate, the software that runs the displays, as well as the public address system and platform displays — all of which will now be ADA-compliant, Amtrak officials said in a press release.

The new PIDS board will display gate and track information and have ADA features. the system is expected to come online at the end of the month. Boards will be upgraded first at each gate in December, with removal of the Solari board occurring next month.

“The new, digital and state-of-the-art PIDS board that will take its place allows us to have a more modern and tech-friendly station with an ADA compliant display board,” said Amtrak Vice President of Passenger Accessibility David Handera.

Amtrak already has replaced boards with PIDS across its national network in an effort to modernize its stations, meet ADA guidelines and improve the customer experience, railroad officials said.

The PIDS project is part of a broader effort to "refresh" the Philadelphia station. Other recent projects include upgrading the Amtrak ClubAcela Lounge.
