Amtrak upgrades Wi-Fi service; launches Texas Eagle service in Arkansas

Amtrak is upgrading its AmtrakConnect Wi-Fi service with 4G technology, railroad officials announced yesterday.

The upgrade has been completed on Acela Express and the California-supported Capitol Corridor, Pacific Surfliner and San Joaquin services, and will be rolled out on all remaining Wi-Fi equipped Amtrak trains by late summer, including the Northeast Regional, Amtrak officials said in a press release.

Meanwhile, Amtrak, local and Texas Eagle Marketing and Performance Organization officials will gather tomorrow in Hope, Ark., to celebrate the launch of Amtrak Texas Eagle service in southwest Arkansas.

"The city of Hope and Amtrak worked closely over the years to bring service to this historic city in southwest Arkansas, overcoming financial and design issues to make service a reality last month," said Tom Connolly, superintendent of Amtrak's Chicago-based Central Division, which is largely responsible for the Texas Eagle service.
