Forbes magazine named Amtrak as one of "America's Best Employers" for 2015, the passenger railroad announced Monday.

The list comprises 500 employers who earned a spot on the list after Forbes conducted an independent study of 20,000 workers throughout the nation, and it represents 25 different industries. Amtrak was listed under the transportation and logistics category.

Amtrak officials said the award highlights their work environment where each employee adds value and contributes to the railroad's overall mission.

"We want working at Amtrak to be a fulfilling experience where employees find a safe workplace, challenging and rewarding opportunities, enjoy respect among colleagues, competitive pay and benefits and a performance-oriented culture," said Amtrak President and Chief Executive Officer Joe Boardman in a statement.

Amtrak joins several other passenger-rail agencies on the list, including the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority, the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority and Bay Area Rapid Transit.

Class I railroads CSX Transportation, Norfolk Southern Railway, BNSF Railway Co. and Union Pacific Railroad also earned spots on Forbes' lineup.
