BMWED members ratify Amtrak contract

Yet another labor union has ratified a contract with Amtrak. By a 971-156 vote, workers represented by the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employes Division of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters ratified their contract with the national intercity passenger railroad.
The 10-year pact is retroactive to Jan. 1, 2000, and extends through Dec. 31, 2009. The contract will place Amtrak maintenance-of-way workers on the same pay and benefit scale as their counterparts working for the U.S. Class Is, according to the union.
