BNSF Railway Co. continues to detail portions of its record $4.3 billion capital spending program for 2013. The latest: track maintenance and capacity expansion projects in Nebraska budgeted at $110 million.

Capacity projects in the state include completing a new bridge over the Missouri River between Plattsmouth, Neb., and Pacific Junction, Iowa; constructing a mile of westbound wye track near Seward; improving car and locomotive shops in Lincoln; and upgrading signals for positive train control implementation.

Track maintenance work involves surfacing and/or undercutting 3,800 miles of track, and replacing 130 miles of rail and 115,000 ties.

"[Our] capital investments in Nebraska will help ensure our network is prepared for growing demand for freight rail," said BNSF Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Matt Rose in a press release. "We are focused on investing to meet our customers' expectations and on expanding capacity where growth is occurring."

Over the past few months, the Class I also has shared breakdowns of planned capital work in Kansas, Missouri, Montana, North Dakota, Texas and Washington.
