Rail News: BNSF Railway
BNSF Logistics acquires Transportation Technology Services
BNSF Logistics LLC (BNSFL) has acquired Transportation Technology Services (TTS), a Texas-based engineering, design and logistics planning and service provider.
TTS is focused on rail solutions for over-dimensional cargoes and has expertise in the wind energy industry, according to a BNSFL press release. The transaction follows other BNSFL investments — including Blade Runner technology — in the emerging wind energy market.
Founded as a rail engineering company in 2001, TTS provided specialty services such as rail-car design, loading, inspection and management of complex project cargo shipments.
The firm is a "perfect fit" for BNSFL's expansion into the industrial products sector, said BNSFL President Ray Greer.
"When combined with our existing multimodal and transload capabilities, BNSFL becomes a leader in North American in multimodal capacity and ability for the industrial products sector," Greer said. "The innovation and value we will be able to bring to our customers just increased significantly."
TTS and BNSFL have collectively developed and managed 50 unique project cargo transload sites across the United States over the past six years.
As BNSFL continues to develop its Blade Runner technology to handle turbine blades via ocean and rail, the combined company will have an "extensive and flexible fleet" of wind component handling systems in North American, BNSFL officials said.
Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
