BNSF Railway Co. and U.S. Silica Holdings Inc. last month marked the grand opening of a frac sand facility in the 280-acre BNSF Logistics Center San Antonio in southwest Bexar County, Texas.

The facility, which opened on May 21, will be operated by Titan Lansing Transloading L.L.C., and will store and distribute frac sand used in south Texas energy fields. The facility features a two-mile rail loop and four loading docks for trucks.

BNSF plans to deliver 100-car unit trains carrying 10,000 tons of frac sand to the facility every two days.

"Business is steadily increasing in the Eagle Ford Shale, and we are excited about the possibilities this partnership [with U.S. Silica] brings for future growth," said Dave Garin, BNSF's group vice president of industrial products, in an item posted on the "BNSF News" web page.
