BNSF adds two more guaranteed intermodal-service lanes

Burlington Northern Santa Fe July 30 announced plans to add Chicago-to-Stockton, Calif., and Chicago-to-Richmond, Calif., lanes to its guaranteed on-time intermodal service, beginning Aug. 6.
The Class I simultaneously plans to offer guaranteed service to international shippers, covering international intermodal trains moving between BNSF's existing guaranteed markets.
BNSF in May 2000 began offering guaranteed intermodal service, which now is available in 12 lanes. Shippers can purchase, at a premium, on-time service for international, domestic and perishable intermodal moves; for each late shipment, BNSF offers a 100 percent refund.
"We are listening to customers, and will continue to expand this program as our customers request new markets and lanes," said Steve Branscum, BNSF group vice president-consumer products, in a prepared statement.
