BNSF Railway has begun early construction and site preparation work on its intermodal facility in northwest Maricopa County as part of the Class I's proposed Logistics Park Phoenix project.
Slated to open for operations in early 2027, the intermodal facility will sit on 350 acres of BNSF's 4,320-acre property that will become its Logistics Park Phoenix project, according to BNSF's "Logistic Park Phoenix Newsletter."
Work on the intermodal facility project has begun as BNSF waits for local county officials' approval of a revised development plan for the park and the intermodal facility, according to a Phoenix Business Journal report.
"State planners expect freight moving through Arizona to grow by about 60% by 2045. At the same time, many of the rail facilities that move goods across the state are already close to full capacity," BNSF officials said in their newsletter. Once up and running, the intermodal facility will add the rail capacity needed to move freight more efficiently in the region, they said.
"Maricopa County is one of the fastest-growing regions in the country," the newsletter states. "That growth is exciting, but it also means our supply chains are working harder than ever."
