BNSF continues to deal with North Dakota derailment
BNSF Railway Co. emergency personnel continue to work with specially trained hazardous materials response teams and local emergency responders at the site of a derailment near Casselton, N.D.
On Dec. 30, 2013, a westbound BNSF grain train derailed about one mile west of Casselton, causing an eastbound BNSF crude train to derail and more than 20 cars involved in the accident to catch fire. No injuries to any train crew members were reported.
The majority of cars in the 112-car grain train and 106-car crude train did not derail and have been pulled away from the site.
The National Transportation Safety Board will lead the investigation into the cause of the derailment and handle all media inquiries about the accident, BNSF officials said in a notice posted on the Class I's website. BNSF has set up local phone numbers to help residents inconvenienced by the derailment and plans to open a claim center today in Casselton.
