BNSF intermodal hubs post lift records

At Burlington Northern Santa Fe, 'tis clearly the intermodal season.
With the holiday shopping season just around the corner, BNSF intermodal facilities were extremely busy in October. The Class I achieved a new monthly system record for the number of containers and trailers lifted — 646,581 units, an 8.4 percent increase compared with the previous monthly lift record of 596,433 set in October 2000, according to a Nov. 11 posting on BNSF Today, the railroad's online news service for employees.
Eleven of BNSF's 35 intermodal facilities also set all-time monthly lift records last month:
• Harvard: 10,077 lifts, a 17.5 percent increase compared with the previous record monthly record of 8,576;
• Alliance: 47,971, a 12.8 percent increase compared with the previous record (42,526);
• San Bernardino: 50,162, a 10.6 percent increase compared with the previous record (45,350);
• Argentine: 26,716, a 10.1 percent increase compared with the previous record (24,275);
• Los Angeles: 114,872 lifts, an 8.4 percent increase compared with the previous record (105,959);
• Memphis: 18,742, a 4.1 percent increase compared with the previous record (18,008);
• Stockton: 20,252, a 2.6 percent increase compared with the previous record (19,734);
• Oakland: 10,118, a 2.0 percent increase compared with the previous record (9,919);
• St. Louis: 8,002, a 0.6 percent increase compared with the previous record (7,955);
• Cicero: 42,398, a 0.3 percent increase compared with the previous record (42,280); and
• St. Paul: 17,558, a 0.03 percent increase compared with the previous record (17,552).
