BNSF Railway Co. yesterday announced the launch of its new express carload service from the Pacific Northwest to the fast-growing Denver and Salt Lake City markets, with speeds comparable to over-the-road options.
The new service will enable BNSF customers to ship high-consumption products to key markets, including food and beverages, lumber and other building materials, BNSF officials said in a press release.
The service is designed to cut transit time in half compared to traditional rail, including three-day transit from Spokane, Washington, to Denver; and offer three days a week departure. It complements BNSF's existing service offering from the Pacific Northwest to Texas, launched in 2017, which provides access to the largest markets in Texas.
The route utilizes the new Sandpoint Junction Connector rail bridge, completed late in 2022, allowing for two-way traffic on the bridge that crosses Lake Pend Oreille, BNSF officials said.
