BNSF logs operations performance highs for November

BNSF Railway Co. yesterday reported its fifth lowest dwell month ever in November 2024, which marked the best month for overall system dwell since May 2020. 

BNSF attributed the record achievements to its operations teams' efforts at merchandise terminals.

Those achievements include:
• an all-time monthly dwell record for system’s entire north region, which encompasses the Montana, Northwest, Twin Cities, Heartland and Powder River divisions;
• an overall hump yard dwell record, which beat the previous record in September; and
• monthly dwell records set in Barstow, California; Lincoln, Nebraska; Galesburg, Illinois; and Pasco, Washington.

"These accomplishments to drive greater efficiency and productivity while maintaining safe operations is a win/win for our employees and our customers, and I’m looking forward to building upon this success as we finish out the year and head into 2025," said Executive Vice President and Chief Operations Officer Matt Igoe in a press release.
