BNSF set to begin rail-spur construction in Kansas

BNSF Railway Co. and NorthPoint Development will soon begin construction of an industrial rail spur and North Park near the Logistics Park Kansas City Intermodal Facility (LPKC) in Edgerton, Kan.

The rail spur will open 325 acres of rail-served property on Waverly Road north of 183rd Street known as North Park, BNSF officials announced late last week.

At full build-out, the North Park will accommodate 3.4 million square feet of rail-served space, which is in addition to the 11 million square feet of warehouse building capacity at LPKC. Construction of the rail spur is expected to be completed in mid-2016.

The Class I's multimillion-dollar investment in constructing the lead track coincides with the city's Waverly Road Improvement Project, BNSF officials said. The project calls for transforming nearly three miles of roadway into a heavy-haul corridor and incorporates the construction of a grade separation at BNSF tracks to ensure Waverly Road traffic can flow without delays due to trains.
